JOB POSITION: Certified Medical Records Coder
JOB STATUS: Full-time position working approximately 80 hours per two week pay period.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS: High school graduate or equivalent. Active certification with either a CPC (AAPC) or CCS (AHIMA) required or the ability to obtain within 12 months of hire date. Must be knowledgeable in medical terminology. Must be attentive to detail and accuracy. Experience with coding Hospital and/or Professional claims required. Inpatient or Outpatient surgery coding preferred. EPIC experience preferred.
JOB DUTIES: Codes and abstracts patient encounters, including diagnostic and procedural information, significant reportable elements, and complications. Audits clinical documentation and coded data to evaluate that documentation supports services rendered for reimbursement and reporting purposes. Assigns codes for reimbursement and compliance with regulatory requirements utilizing standard guidelines. Analyzes charges and documentation for appropriateness and identifies new additions to the fee schedule based upon recognition of new procedures. Candidate must have the ability to work closely with providers to ensure accurate and timely claims submission. Will work closely with Patient Financial Services as necessary to ensure claims are compliant and accurate for submission and reimbursement. Checks for compliance with all local and national coverage determinations for qualifying diagnosis, prepares records as requested by patients, healthcare providers, or payors. Must be a strong communicator with a focus on confidentiality, quality of work, and customer service. Other duties as needed.
