Emergency Department Registered Nurse Lisa Gandee is retiring today after serving Wyandot Memorial Hospital for 31 years.
Gandee was hired to work as a nurses’ aide while she was in nursing school, then cared for patients in the hospital’s Medical/Surgical Nursing Unit upon earning her license. In addition to her roles in Med/Surg and the Emergency Department, she also worked in Critical/Coronary Care and the Specialty Healthcare Center.
Gandee shared she chose nursing as a career after caring for her ill mother, who passed away when she was 14.
“She called me her little nurse,” Gandee said, “and I became a nurse because I love taking care of people. I never feel like it’s my job; it’s my passion.”
Gandee added that she has especially enjoyed being a nurse at Wyandot.
“I feel like we are all a family and we treat our patients like family,” she noted.
Retirement plans for Gandee include trips with her husband to Alaska and New Zealand.
