DEPARTMENT: LABORATORY SERVICES
JOB POSITION: DIRECTOR OF LABORATORY SERVICES
JOB STATUS: Full-time management position. General hours: 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM, Monday through Friday. Hours may flex due to department need.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor’s Degree in Medical Technology from recognized college/university. Certified as a Medical Technologist or Categorical Technologist by the American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP) or equivalent agency. Experienced Medical Technologists with demonstrated management skills to manage a clinical lab with a staff of full-time, part-time, and contingent employees. Must have at least three (3) years experience in a supervisory position in a Clinical Laboratory setting. BLS and HAZMAT certification preferred. Demonstrated familiarity with state & federal regulations & other accrediting agencies. Effective verbal & written communication, interpersonal, & analytical skills, organization skills, math & budgeting skills, accurate typing, lab information system & data entry skills. Ability to verbally express themselves and communicate effectively. Physically capable of performing duties required by the department. Ability to operate and troubleshoot all equipment within the department and minor office equipment.
JOB DUTIES: Supervises daily Laboratory operations to ensure high quality lab results in an efficient and timely manner, and ensure provision of the services by constant enforcement of inspecting
agency standards. Prepares and monitors quality control charts, instrument function checks, and instrument maintenance protocols to ensure quality and integrity of results. Responsible for preparation of quality improvement monitoring, reporting, and follow-up to hospitals’ QI Board and coordinates risk management activities for the Unit. Acts as a liaison between Medical Director and administration and staff. Also communicates and educates quality improvement and risk management data to unit personnel. Schedules appropriate Laboratory personnel to ensure proper numbers and skill levels to handle the daily workload. Performs technical tasks in the absence of a technician or as workload demands. Prepares bi-weekly time cards for payroll. Maintains records for federal, state, accrediting agencies, and other appropriate license accreditation. Responsible for development of department budget and cost analysis. Participates in hospital committees as requested. Must be strong communicator with a focus on confidentiality, quality of care and customer satisfaction.
