JOB POSITION: Clinical Medical Office Assistant
JOB STATUS: Full-time position working flexible day shift hours, approximately 72 hours per pay period.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS: High school graduate or equivalent. Minimum of two years’ experience in any type of physician practice setting or one-year experience in a physician practice setting. Must be able to work with the nursing and ancillary staff to provide a unified and seamless approach to delivering care. Self-starter who seeks out opportunities to remain productive in all aspects of office functionality. BLS certification and knowledge of infection prevention principles are required or be able to obtain BLS certification within 60 days of employment through employer. Must have communication (written and verbal) and interpersonal skills; a demonstrated ability to develop rapport and maintain positive, professional relationships with a variety of patients, staff and physician/nurse practitioner in a busy office practice. Proficient computer skills including keyboarding, navigation within a Windows operating system, and use of electronic mail with exposure to electronic medical records systems and excellent ability to use other office equipment including, but not limited to: fax, scanner, copier, and telephone. Knowledge of basic medical procedures and medical terminology is preferred. Ability to make decisions based on urgency of the situation. Ability to work independently with little direction. This position is responsible for adhering to all standards assigned and for promoting teamwork.
JOB DUTIES: Provides direct care to a patient population under the guidance of licensed staff. Will perform a mixture of clinical tasks and clerical office tasks. Assists physician/nursing staff with diagnostic/treatment procedures and patient flow. Greets patients, manages the telephone, schedules appointments, obtains pre-certifications as needed, and collects lab specimens as requested. Prepares exam rooms, takes medical histories, takes and records vital signs and pertinent information, and assists during exam. Performs daily computer entry tasks and general clerical duties. Follows all established organization and department policies, procedures, objectives, and quality assessment. Responsible for assisting in maintaining a safe work environment and adheres to all safety policies and procedures. Attends all mandatory in-service programs and maintains a professional appearance.
