Wyandot On Wheels Adding Sycamore to Schedule

Hospital

Wyandot On Wheels is adding a stop in Sycamore to its monthly schedule starting August 4.

The bus will be parked just north of the square in Sycamore on the first Wednesday of each month from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

On the second Wednesday, WOW is at the Forest VFW; WOW travels to the Nevada United Methodist Church on the third Wednesday and the fourth Wednesday of every month finds WOW at the Harpster Township Hall. The Carey Senior Depot hosts WOW every Thursday.

The visit to Sycamore replaces a WOW stop in Wharton that was discontinued due to low participation.

Wyandot On Wheels offers lab draws for blood tests and community health screenings. The physician-ordered lab draws are billed to patients’ insurances. The screenings are a special outreach offering of the hospital for low-cost services that are important indicators for disease and health status.

For $35, patients may have an automated CBC, full lipid profile, basic metabolic panel and AST/ALT. The screening checks hemoglobin, white cell count, total cholesterol, HDL, LDL, triglycerides and ratio, glucose (blood sugar), electrolytes, kidney function and liver enzymes. For the most accurate results, participants will want to fast for 12 hours prior to the test. Water is permitted during the fast and encouraged to prevent dehydration.

Other blood tests are also available. The test for TSH and Free T4 at $25 checks thyroid function. The A1C test for $20 measures the average blood glucose for the past 2-3 months. The PSA for $15 measures prostate-specific antigen. These optional tests require no fasting.

Results for the community health screenings are mailed to participants.

In addition to blood draws, WOW Coordinator Michelle Gullifer offers free blood pressure checks and schedules screening mammograms for early detection of cancer. She welcomes phone calls (419-294-4991, extension 1969), emails (mgullifer@wyandotmemorial.org) or visits to WOW for more information.

Pediatric Physicals and More on WOW during August

A pediatric provider will be aboard WOW for its community visits in August to provide physicals for children from newborn through age 17. No appointments are needed for physicals on WOW, and the examinations will be billed to patients’ insurances.

The pediatric providers on WOW also welcome parents’ questions and concerns about their children’s health and development. For more information about the special offerings on WOW in August, contact Gullifer.
