Matt Mercer, RN, BSA, of Upper Sandusky has been promoted to Vice President and Chief Financial Officer at Wyandot Memorial Hospital.

During Mercer’s 11 years at WMH, he has been an integral part of both the finance and nursing divisions. He most recently served as the hospital’s controller and had responsibility for the financial reporting, cost reporting, treasury function and regulatory filings and audits. He also was actively involved in the revenue cycle functions.

Previously, Mercer held positions as the hospital’s clinical systems analyst, Emergency Department manager and staff nurse in Oncology, Cardiology, Intensive/Critical Care and ER. Prior to joining WMH, Mercer was employed with Birchaven Retirement Village, Cardinal Health, Carey Nursing and Rebab and Fox Run Manor.

Mercer earned both an Associate Degree in Nursing and Practical Nursing Certificate from Owens Community College, a Bachelor of Science in accounting from Western Governors University and is currently pursuing a Masters of Business Administration. He maintains his licensure as a Registered Nurse and continues to serve as president of the Toledo Seagate Chapter of the Emergency Nurse Association. He is also a Certified Specialist in Accounting and Finance by the Healthcare Financial Management Association and a Six Sigma Black Belt Profession, which is a certification in improving processes, eliminating defects and waste, and guaranteeing quality.

Outside of healthcare, Mercer is an Enrolled Agent and formerly a senior tax advice specialist for Intuit and Turbo Tax. He enjoys volunteer work and public speaking. He volunteers at Trinity Evangelical United Methodist Church in the Children’s Special Needs Ministry and the finance committee. He was the keynote speaker at Owens Community College nursing graduation, First Step Domestic Violence Intervention Center Education Center dedication, and has testified before the Ohio Senate Finance Committee regarding state budgetary matters. He and his wife Micah are the parents of five children.
