Gastroenterologists Join Wyandot Memorial Hospital

Three gastroenterology specialists have joined the staff at Wyandot Memorial Hospital. William Shaheen, MD, Ganesh Veerappan, MD, and Arjun Venkat, MD, practice in Akron, and provide both in-person office visits and telehealth for appointments.

Dr. Shaheen is board certified in Gastroenterology and serves as Clinical Assistant Professor of Medicine at Northeast Ohio Medical University and Ohio University Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine. He earned his medical degree from Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine in Cleveland and completed both a residency in Internal Medicine and fellowship in Gastroenterology at the University of Rochester in New York.

Dr. Veerappan is board certified in Gastroenterology and Internal Medicine. He is the Vice-Chairman of Gastroenterology and an Associate Professor at Northeast Ohio Medical University. He earned his medical degree from Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine in Cleveland, and completed post-graduate training in Internal Medicine and Gastroenterology at Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, D.C.

Dr. Venkat is board certified in Gastroenterology and serves as an attending physician at Summa Health System in Akron. He earned his medical degree from Mangalore University, India and his Master of Public Health degree from San Diego State University in San Diego, California. He completed his Gastroenterology fellowship at the University of California San Diego and his Hepatology fellowship at the University of Nebraska Omaha.

Gastroenterology is the study of the normal function and diseases of the esophagus, stomach, small intestine, colon and rectum, pancreas, gall bladder, bile ducts and liver. It includes common and important conditions such as colon polyps and cancer, hepatitis, gastroesophageal reflux (heartburn), peptic ulcer disease, colitis, gallbladder and biliary tract disease, nutritional problems, Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS), and pancreatitis.

In addition to patient consultations, Drs. Shaheen, Veerappan and Venkat perform gastroenterology procedures at Wyandot Memorial.
