COVID-19 Testing Streamlined

Hospital

Wyandot Memorial Hospital streamlined its testing for coronavirus disease (COVID-19) to better accommodate the increased need in our community.

Testing for Current Infection

Individuals having an order for a COVID-19 test from their primary care medical provider may present that order at the hospital’s Lab Drive-thru lab. The Lab Drive-thru requires pre-registration by phoning 419-294-4991, extension 2291. The Lab Drive-thru is open Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the Emergency Department parking lot at WMH. Participants remain in their vehicles for the lab staff to assist them. The drive-thru is conducted on a first-come, first-served basis and no appointments are scheduled.

Individuals that do not have an order for a COVID-19 test but are experiencing symptoms of the virus may be evaluated at the hospital’s Respiratory Illness Clinic. The Respiratory Illness Clinic is open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Emergency Department parking lot. The medical provider at the Respiratory Illness Clinic will determine if criteria is met for COVID-19 testing. If criteria for testing is not met, participants will receive instructions for self-care.

An evaluation at the Respiratory Illness Clinic is billed as an UrgentCare visit. The evaluations are provided on a first-come, first-served basis and no appointments are scheduled. Participants remain in their vehicles for staff to assist them. After hours, care is provided by the hospital’s Emergency Department.

The Ohio Department of Health offers free COVID-19 testing for asymptomatic individuals at its pop-up testing sites. A listing of the current pop-up sites and complete details are available on the ODH website.

Some retail pharmacies are also providing COVID-19 testing for asymptomatic individuals, and links to their sites are also included on the ODH website.

Testing for Past Infection

Wyandot Memorial offers antibody testing for $60. The blood test determines if COVID-19 antibodies are present, which means there has been a previous infection. The antibody testing at WMH is offered as a special outreach project, so no physician’s order is needed and no insurance plans are billed. Pre-registration for antibody testing is required by phoning 419-294-4991, extension 2291.

Entering WMH

All individuals entering the hospital must use the main entrance (6:30 a.m. to 8 p.m.) or the emergency department entrance (always open) for screening for fever and COVID-19 symptoms. Cloth face coverings are mandatory and the hospital encourages patients and visitors to bring their own masks.

Patient Appointments

Medical providers are conducting “office” visits in person or via phone or telemedicine. Anyone scheduled for an appointment and experiencing symptoms of COVID-19 is asked to phone the provider’s office for guidance.

All hospital departments are open for diagnostic testing and treatment and taking extra precautions for patient safety. Patients may bring one adult with them for appointments, testing or treatment. Pediatric patients may have two of their parents or guardians accompany them.

Hospitalized Patients

Patients admitted for inpatient, outpatient surgery, swing bed, observation or emergency services may have one adult visitor per day. Hospitalized pediatric patients may have two of their parents or guardians visit them. Individuals who are symptomatic or positive for COVID-19 will not be permitted to visit, and patients hospitalized for COVID-19 should not have visitors if possible. Video visits are encouraged to limit the spread of the virus.
