Breast Health Screenings October 24

Women are invited to participate in free clinical breast exams at Wyandot Memorial Hospital on Thursday, October 24 from 7:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.

The free exams will be provided by one of WMH’s women’s healthcare providers at their offices in Suite H on the lower level of the hospital. No appointments are needed for the important screenings.

“The clinical breast exam is an essential tool in finding breast cancer early,” noted Women’s Health Navigator Brittany Thiel, RN.

Another vital tool in the early detection of breast cancer – mammography – will be available to women from 3 to 7 pm on the same day. Walk-in screening mammograms will be performed by the hospital’s mammography technologists in the x-ray/imaging department, with insurances billed for that test. Interested participants may report to the x-ray/imaging office on the main floor of the hospital with their current insurance card during the special walk-in hours.

Thiel said all participants in the clinical breast exams and screening mammograms on the 24th will be entered into a drawing for a gift basket. She organized the screenings in recognition of breast cancer awareness month in October and emphasized the importance of early detection.

“If breast cancer is found early and treated when it’s small and in its earliest stage, the chance for successful treatment is greatest,” Thiel added.
