Mercer Promoted to Director of Emergency Department Services

Matt Mercer, RN, of Upper Sandusky has been promoted to Director of Emergency Department Services at Wyandot Memorial Hospital.

Mercer manages the staff members working in the Emergency Department and is responsible for the day-to-day operations in collaboration with the department’s medical director, James Cohen, MD. Mercer has a special interest in process improvement and patient satisfaction.

Mercer has worked at WMH since 2009, including positions in the Emergency Department, Intensive/Critical Care Unit, Oncology and Cardiology. Most recently he served as the hospital’s clinical systems analyst to provide oversight of the electronic health record and associated systems. This role blended Mercer’s clinical experiences with his knowledge of technology.

Prior to joining WMH, Mercer was employed with Birchaven Retirement Village, Cardinal Health, Carey Nursing and Rebab and Fox Run Manor.

Mercer earned both an Associate Degree in Nursing and Practical Nursing Certificate from Owens Community College in Toledo, and is currently pursuing a Bachelor of Science in accounting. In addition to licensure as a Registered Nurse, he is trained in trauma tactics, sexual assault nurse examiner, neonatal resuscitation, advanced cardiac life support and pediatric advanced life support. He is also slated to complete this summer the black belt certification for Lean Six Sigma, a methodology for complex improvement projects.

Outside of healthcare, Mercer is an Enrolled Agent and senior tax advice specialist for Intuit and owner of Epiphany Financial Solutions. He and his wife Micah are the parents of five children.
