Wellness Center Extends Hours

The Wellness Center at Wyandot Memorial Hospital is expanding its hours and participates with the SilverSneakers® and Prime® Fitness programs.

The Wellness Center at Wyandot Memorial Hospital has expanded its hours for community memberships to include evening hours, and now participates with SilverSneakers® and Prime® Fitness.

Wellness hours are Mondays and Wednesdays from 2 to 7:30 p.m., Tuesdays and Thursdays from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. and 1 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., and Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m.

A membership at the Wellness Center is $30 per month and $15 for a member’s significant other. That fee includes the use of all equipment, a wellness assessment, exercise and nutrition consultations, weekly weigh-ins, monthly measurements, blood pressure screenings and a full lipid panel twice a year. Wellness members can participate in Sit Be Fit fitness classes each Saturday at 9 a.m. at no extra cost and receive complimentary registration for Matter of Balance sessions offered throughout the year.

The Wellness Center is closed weekdays from 12 to 1 p.m., and reserves morning and early afternoon hours on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays for medically-monitored cardiac and pulmonary rehabilitation patients.

“Our patients asked us to add evening hours so they use the gym after work,” explained Dr. Byron Morales, the hospital’s population health and wellness director. “We’re glad we could accommodate them, especially in the winter season when the weather and limited daylight can make exercise outside unsafe.”

Dr. Morales noted he was also eager to offer the SilverSneakers program.

“I had many seniors inquire about the possibility of our being a SilverSneakers site,” Dr. Morales added. He said the need was great since some other local exercise facilities were no longer involved. While evaluating the SilverSneakers program, he learned about Prime Fitness.

SilverSneakers is a fitness benefit included with many Medicare health plans for individuals age 65 and above, and Prime Fitness is offered for adults 18-64 by some health plans. Eligibility can be determined by checking health plan details or employer health and wellness benefits.

According to Dr. Morales, SilverSneakers and Prime Fitness participants are entitled to the use of all Wellness Center equipment, an exercise consultation and blood pressure screening. Optional services are also available upon request.
