Wyandot Memorial Hospital recently purchased a new Genius™ 3D Mammography™ exam system to provide women with earlier, more accurate breast cancer detection.

The system is similar to a traditional 2D system, in that there is no additional compression or repositioning needed. However, it offers a major upgrade to its 2D counterpart – increased peace of mind for patients.

To understand the difference in the images provided, imagine a 2D system shows only the cover of a book. The new 3D system lets your doctor see not only the cover of the book, but also flip through the book’s pages.

“The new Genius exam is more accurate for women of all ages and for women with both dense and non-dense breast tissue,” said Jillian Yeater, Wyandot Memorial’s Director of Radiology, Cardiology, and Wellness Services.

Dense breast tissue can cause difficulty in detecting breast cancer. But this 3D mammography system offers greater accuracy and a higher detection rate.

“The Genius exam is the only mammogram approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration as a better option for women with dense breasts,” Yeater said. “Having this system will be a huge asset to all the women we care for here at Wyandot Memorial Hospital.”

Finding breast cancer at its earliest, most treatable stage is the key to successfully tackling the disease.

The Genius 3D Mammography system finds 20 percent to 60 percent more invasive breast cancer than traditional mammograms alone.

Early breast cancer detection is key to successful treatment, and Wyandot Memorial Hospital is proud to now offer this advanced technology to better care for area women.
