The youth attending the babysitter training course received a packet of information, including safety hand-outs from Todd Frey of the Wyandot County Sheriff’s Department. Robert Orr of the Upper Sandusky Fire Department and Wyandot Memorial Hospital discussed fire safety and practiced drills with the babysitters.

Wyandot Memorial Hospital nursing staff participating in the training included Jennifer Brown (CPR), Angie Harr (first aid), Chris Martin and Lauren Studer (infant care) and Valerie Schalk (CPR).   Registered Dietetic Technician Eleanor Smith talked to the youth about nutrition and healthy snacks, and Executive Assistant Mary Anne Schwenning reviewed growth and development, expectations for babysitters and job skills.

Those sitters completing the course who have parental permission may have their name on a referral list available at the hospital’s front desk or from Schwenning.

Wyandot Memorial Hospital began offering the free babysitter training program in 1985 as a community service. Another class is planned for June 6. For more information about the next class or the list of sitters, contact Schwenning by phoning 419-294-4991, extension 2205, or emailing her at mschwenning@wyandotmemorial.org.
