Medical/Surgical Unit

The medical/surgical nursing unit - referred to as med/surg - includes 16 patient rooms. The department serves acute care, observation and surgery patients, and is licensed for the swing-bed program for the provision of skilled and intermediate nursing care for patients requiring extra convalescent care before returning home.

Specialty Healthcare Center

Physician specialists hold office hours in the specialty healthcare center, and the treatment room accommodates special procedures, such as colonoscopies and pain management therapies. The staff also provide allergy shots.

Surgery

WMH's surgery department includes two operating rooms that provide surgical care ranging from hip and knee replacements to cataracts to high-tech laparoscopic procedures. Surgery services may require an inpatient stay, but many are now performed on an outpatient/same-day basis. In the photo above, Dr. Peter Schuler, general surgeon, stops by the nurses' station to confer with WMH nursing personnel in the hospital's medical/surgical unit.

Staff members work closely with the hospital's partners in the Ohio State Health Network in providing oncology services and are developing local support programs in conjunction with the American Cancer Society.
